Lab Atlas Introduction (Early Access)

March 31, 2025 | by Lab Atlas Team

Today we are very excited to introduce Lab Atlas, a new system for organizing scientific research data, notes, and code. It’s a fully managed platform that gives researchers more time to spend on science by eliminating time typically spent on administering information.

The Origin of Lab Atlas

With decades of experience in academic and commercial research organizations, the Lab Atlas team knows firsthand how much time scientists lose to managing data, chasing down results, and staying aligned with colleagues—instead of focusing on science.

Six years ago, we formed a software team at a biotech startup to tackle this exact problem. The result was the open-source project management tool Study Tracker. Since then, it’s been adopted by a wide range of companies, helping save time and prevent knowledge loss. The most common request has been for a fully managed version. That’s exactly what we’re launching today with Lab Atlas.

What Makes Lab Atlas Unique

Lab Atlas isn’t just another project management tool—it’s purpose-built for the needs of scientists, research teams, and administrators working in wet labs, dry labs, and across academic and industry settings. It builds on everything that made Study Tracker effective, adds powerful new features, and wraps it in a user-friendly experience that’s easy to get started with.

  • Track your projects—manage your files, capture notes, and link the systems your research data lives in, all in one place.
  • Streamline your workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and ensure your entire team stays informed and collaborative.

By reducing time spent on record-keeping, simplifying data management, and consolidating research knowledge, Lab Atlas helps scientists stay focused on science and less on spreadsheets. Because data security is critical, Lab Atlas prioritizes protecting your research data, ensuring only authorized access.
